The New Year is a great time to think about a fresh new look in your home!
To get the ball rolling (after it's dropped of course!) here are a few of the decorating trends to consider incorporating into a crisp 2017 look in your home.
· Smart home features are the #1 trend for 2017. The new normal for features highlighted in home design include built in charging docks for all our electronic devices. Living in an older home? You’re not left behind; you can still get the same features built into side tables or night stands
· Matte finish appliances; the contrasts and colors compliment so many different styles and can easily update the look of your kitchen without a total redo being necessary
· Jewel tone colors and DRAMA galore! From accent pieces to show stopping upholstery choices, blah beige is so yesterday. Bold patterns and colors to energize your living spaces
· Marble countertops are so very in – in the kitchen and the baths! One caveat though, those who have tested them suggest for greater durability and longevity we might want to go for the look but skip the expense of the real thing. It turns out marble is subject to staining and can be difficult to maintain. Faux finish can give you the same look and feel
My personal favorite trend for the upcoming year is an end to matchy matchy period pieces. Opt instead for an eclectic look that blends older pieces with newer pieces; darker woods with lighter woods and even throw in a mix of textures for a truly stunning personal statement in your home.
The best advice to follow in home decorating trends? Everyone agrees – unless you are putting your house up for sale now or within the nextcouple of years – any remodeling you do should be about what you love to live with and not what’s trending. Unless of course what’s trending happens to mirror the styles you really love!
